Talented performer to teach Popping and Locking skills to youth

Gladstone Region youth can learn Popping and Locking moves from two-time Australia's Got Talent grand finalist, Sheru.

Gladstone Regional Council Community Services portfolio spokesperson Councillor Maxine Brushe said Sheru would tutor a SUNfest Popping & Locking Dance workshop at the Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre from January 18 to 22.

"It is exciting to welcome a performer, as talented as Sheru, to teach his modern dance skills and techniques and share his enthusiasm for Popping and Locking with our youth," Cr Brushe said.

Sheru, who has been a major part of groups including Swagamama, Shift-1 and Who Are These Robots will teach some of the moves he displayed during television appearances.

Sheru's visit is assisted by the Gladstone Region Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF), a Queensland Government and Gladstone Regional Council partnership to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.

Participants in the Popping & Locking Dance workshop learn and perform for the five days with the recognised and talented entertainer and then display their skills at the QGC SUNfest Showcase on January 22.

Tickets are still also available for various other activities offered in the Gladstone Region's SUNfest youth holiday program.

Cr Brushe said SUNfest 2016 would start next Monday (Jan 11) with more than 400 tickets across the program already sold.

"The annual holiday program, organised by Gladstone Festivals and Events on behalf of Council, offers 11 to 17 year olds the chance to participate in a variety of organised activities at locations across the Gladstone Region," she said.

SUNfest tickets can be purchased online, over the phone or in person at the Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre, or Council's administration and rural transaction centres.
