Leading Queensland Indigenous Art to Visit the Gladstone Region

Highlights from the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art’s landmark 2013 Indigenous Australian art exhibition will visit Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum from 3 June to 27 August 2016, with the official launch this Friday 10 June, at 6.30pm. 

‘My Country, I Still Call Australia Home: Contemporary Art from Black Queensland’ is the latest QAGOMA exhibition to travel throughout regional Queensland.

QAGOMA Director Chris Saines said the touring version of ‘My Country’ features more than 25 works by 20 artists.

‘The exhibition includes artworks from the Gallery's holdings of Indigenous Australian paintings, sculptures, fibre art, prints and photography which explore the history, contemporary issues and geographic country of Queensland’s Indigenous peoples,’ Mr Saines said.

Visiting the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum will be important works by contemporary Queensland artists including Michael Cook and Fiona Foley, as well as works by the late Mirdidingkingathi Juwarrnda Sally Gabori that describe deep connections to country.  A selection of QAGOMA’s popular Ku’ (Camp Dogs) by a group of Aurukun-based artists will also be on display.

‘My Country, I Still Call Australia Home: Contemporary Art from Black Queensland’ will be officially launched at the Gallery & Museum at 6.30pm, Friday 10 June 2016.  Prior to the official launch, from 5.30pm, the Curator of the exhibition, Bruce McLean, will host a FREE Curator's Talk.  All are invited to attend both events, with light refreshments served afterwards.

The Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum is open 10am - 5pm, Monday to Saturday.
