Working Town
Using objects from the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum collection, including photographs from Murray Ware, this is an exhibition about how Industry has shaped Gladstone for more than a century.
From the early development of the harbour and wharf facilities to the arrival of multiple large-scale industrial plants, work has influenced the way of life in Gladstone and shaped our town, communities and families. Industrial sites around the region have become landmarks to many, shift work has shaped our routines, and employment has drawn new people and families to the region.
Murray Ware spent 16 years as chief photographer at the Gladstone Observer before starting his own business, 'Photography by Murray Ware'. Murray gained a favourable reputation for his vast experience and much of his work with local businesses and industry was published nationally, used for promotion or planning.
