Golding Visual Art Bursary

The Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum Society Golding Bursary has been established with the generous support of late Society patron, Mr Cyril Golding (1920-2012), to assist students from the Gladstone, Port Curtis and Callide Valley Region of Central Queensland in pursuing tertiary studies in all aspects of Visual Arts. The bursary is now carried on by his widow, Shirley Golding and the members of the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum Society.

It is recognised that students from this region have to leave the area to undertake tertiary studies in Visual Arts and that this places an additional burden on them and their families. It is intended that the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum Society Golding Bursary will benefit such students.

Golding Bursary Guidelines:

  • Students must be a resident of and/or have attended secondary school within the local government areas administrated by the Gladstone Regional or Banana Shire Councils.
  • Student must show that they have been offered and accepted a place in an Australian tertiary institute to pursue studies in the Arts.
  • Student will receive $2000 a year, for a maximum of three years, for a full time course of continuous duration, on the condition that each semester is successfully completed.
  • The Bursary will be paid in equal instalments at the commencement of each semester provided the student is making satisfactory progress.
  • Student to submit summaries of their progress and an official copy of their end of semester results, each semester, to the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum Society’s committee prior to receiving the next Bursary payments.
  • The Bursary is to be used to defray costs associated with student’s visual arts studies and may include expenses such as the purchase of materials, course texts, payment of course fees or HECS charges, etc.
  • At the conclusion of their studies the student may be invited to present an exhibition (approx. 25sqm), a portfolio of work for public viewing, an installation or illustrated talk, etc; in conjunction with Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum. The event will be influenced by the area of study pursued and the nature of the student’s work.
