Portraiture with Ping
About the course
In this course local award-winning artist Ping Carlyon will teach you how to create a portrait using watercolour over 8 weeks. You will discover how to tackle skin and hair texture, sketch, draw and paint mouth, nose and eyes. Ping will also share her tips about materials and tools, modelling agreements and selecting reference photos. At the end of the course you will put together your knowledge and new skills to create a finished artwork.

Level: Beginners
Dates: Wednesdays, 5 May – 23 June 2021 (8 weeks)
Time: 6pm – 7.30pm (please arrive 5.45pm for a 6pm start)
Cost: $80 total for 8 weeks (non-refundable payment to be made when booking)

About the artist
Originally from Taiwan, Ping is a Gladstone Region local for over a decade now. Ping graduated with a Bachelor of Art Education back in Taiwan and has been painting and teaching ever since. Her exceptional works Good Morning Gladstone and Good Night Gladstone are part of the Gladstone Regional Council’s art collection. As a talented watercolourist, Ping has illustrated a number of local children’s books. In 2020 Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum hosted Ping’s solo exhibition Our Shining Stars, featuring portraits of children from our region and sharing the importance of sport and other activities to our community. https://www.facebook.com/studiopinggladstone/
