EXPRESSION OF INTEREST - MURAL DESIGN PROPOSAL

Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum (GRAGM) invite Gladstone Region Artists to submit their expressions of interest (EOI), for the design and delivery of ephemeral mural(s) to be located on the GRAGM courtyard wall. 

GRAGM is committed to fostering the growth and development of our local regional artists. As part of this commitment, this initiative seeks to commission a mural or murals, by one or multiple artists, that celebrate the unique stories, people and landscapes which encapsulate the identity of our Region and its history. 

Artists are encouraged to respond to local narratives, cultural heritage and place-based themes, to showcase our Regional Stories in their EOI. 

Key Objectives and Creative Deliverables 
  • Connection to place (harbour, farming, mining, rail, coast, environment, landscapes, development of the region, Southern Great Barrier Reef) 
  • Community Identity 
  • First Nations history (where appropriate and approved by Traditional Owners, First Nations Bailai, Gurang,  Gooreng Gooreng, Taribelang Bunda People (FNBGGGTB) 
  • Reflect the connection to community, identity, or the natural world, keeping within the artist’s practice 
Mural Specific 
  • Mural itself to have a lifespan of up to two years 
  • Artist's ability to deliver the project by 30 June 2026 
  • Current Public Liability (20 million dollars) 
  • Provide materials list, appropriate Safety Data Sheets (SMS’s) and maintenance guide 
  • Provide Risk Assessment and or Safe Work Methods Standard 
  • Meet the selection criteria through the EOI process 
  • Possible collaborative project, may be required to design boarder, and work alongside other artists on site 
  • Where required supply FNBGGGTB approvals 
  • Where required Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) Protocols 
Selection Process 

Assessment is undertaken by a panel with panel members scoring against set criteria. Applicants should ensure that responses address each key criterion and include all required documents. 

EOI Submission and key dates
  • To: Curator, Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum, gragm@gladstone.qld.gov.au  
  • EOI’s open: 7 May 2026 
  • EOI’s close: 18 May 2026 
  • Assessment: 18 to 20 May 2026 
  • Applicants notified: 21 May 2026 (up-to 3 shortlisted)
