You be the Judge - QAL People's Choice Awards voting available now! - 2015
Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum's annual Rio Tinto Martin Hanson Memorial Art Awards is now open, with locals invited to visit and cast their vote in the 2015 QAL People's Choice Awards.
Following the successful introduction of The QAL People's Choice Awards last year, Jacinta Williamson announced the opening of the public vote on opening night (Saturday, 17 October), and so far the Gallery & Museum has been astounded by the enthusiastic response from the public.
"We are thrilled to have QAL on board again with The People's Choice Awards. Everyone enjoyed being able to vote for their favourite work so much last year that we were very excited to have QAL support the Awards again this year. There is such a lot of talent on display, even with four votes; it's still not an easy job for anyone!" Jo Duke, Curator, Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum said.
Each visitor to the Art Awards exhibition is encouraged to vote for their favorite pieces in the four sections of entry: (1) Easel Works; (2) Works on Paper; (3) Three Dimensional and Fibre Works; (4) Digital Works by voting through the QAL iPad voting kiosks found within the exhibition spaces.
The QAL People's Choice Awards will be presented to four lucky artists whose work is the 'most voted for' in each section by the visiting public. Artists will be presented with $500 each and one lucky voter will also win a two night all-inclusive package at 1770 Getaway Retreat for two adults. Voting closes 12noon, 2 December 2015 with winners notified afterwards. Terms and conditions for the QAL People's Choice Awards can be found online at www.hereforgladstone.com.au
This year's Judge, Mr Simon Wright, Assistant Director (Learning + Public Engagement), Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAG|GOMA), presented twenty-one Awards, awarding a staggering $40,000 worth of prize money, thanks to the generous support of local community, business and industry.
"We have been so lucky to have such fantastic community support for our 2015 Art Awards. The local sponsors, especially QAL, have been wonderful to work with and the artists and art supporters of our community have all also been overwhelmingly generous with their support," Jo said.
This year's Art Awards attracted 323 entries from 222 artists across the country (and New Zealand). Over 290 works were included in the exhibition with 70% of those showcased from local regional artists. Opening day fascinated 700 energetic visitors with hundreds more pouring through the Gallery & Museum doors every day since.
The 2015 Rio Tinto Martin Hanson Memorial Art Awards is open 10am - 5pm, Monday to Saturday, until 10 December at the Gallery & Museum. Entry is FREE. The Gallery & Museum will be closed 25 December - 3 January (inclusive).
