Talented artist to offer guidance to students in free art workshops

Gladstone Region primary school students can attend one of three free art workshops with award-winning local artist, Marion Hughes, during December.

Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said the workshops would be hosted in conjunction with Gladstone Regional Council's 2018 Celebrate Australia Primary School Art Competition.

“This is an opportunity for students to gain some helpful tips and guidance from one of our region’s talented artists,” Councillor Burnett said.

Basic materials will be provided with participants to wear their own favourite art gear and take along their creative ideas.

Workshops will be held from 10.30am to noon on:
• Monday, December 11 at Baffle Creek Community Centre
• Tuesday, December 12 at Mount Larcom Hall
• Wednesday, December 13 at Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum

Entries will be accepted until 4pm on Friday, December 15 and winners will be announced at Council's 2018 Australia Day celebrations on January 26 with prizes awarded to the winning artist in each age group.

Six award winning works will be printed as 2018 Gladstone Region Australia Day commemorative postcards to be given away during the celebrations and exhibitions.
