Mark the calendar – exhibition launch and Curator’s talk at GRAGM

With multiple exhibitions officially launching, Gladstone Region Councillor Natalia Muszkat encouraged community members to come along to the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum and experience the range of artwork on display.

“This Friday will mark the official launch of five exciting exhibitions,” Cr Muszkat said.

“Saturday we will also see Bimblebox 153 Birds Curator, Jill Sampson deliver her Curator’s talk.

“Jill will be speaking about the exhibition, the ideas behind it and how she has brought different creative practices together.”

Bimblebox 153 Birds: 2 March – 30 March
An installation of artists’ prints, poetry, prose and musicians' birdcalls by over 450 people worldwide who have been inspired by the birdlife of the Bimblebox Nature Refuge. Bimblebox 153 Birds is supported by Creative Partnerships Australia through the Australian Cultural Fund. This Project is also supported by The Bimblebox Alliance, Museums & Galleries Queensland and proudly sponsored by Seedhead Holistic Graphic Design and Quill Studios.

Overwintering: 2 March – 30 March 2019
An artists' book produced by Firestation Print Studio, Melbourne and Migaloo Press, Brisbane, which comprises of thirty-two artists' prints created in 2018. The organisers, Edith May, Jennifer Stuerzl and Sue Poggioli worked together to produce a book that features images of a wide range of migratory birds and the habitats they need for their survival. Overwintering is an independent project in association with Kate Gorringe-Smith's The Overwintering Project - Mapping Sanctuary, which aims to raise awareness of migratory shorebirds to help preserve these extraordinary creatures.

Wetlanders: 2 March – 30 March 2019
Created by members of Migaloo Press Artist Collective, this exhibition examines the artists' response to the importance of intertidal zones for these shorebirds' diminishing feeding grounds.
The exhibition is inspired by The Overwintering Project - Mapping Sanctuary curated by Kate Gorringe-Smith.

2019 Celebrate Australia Primary School Art Competition: 9 March – 20 April 2019
A colourful and imaginative display of paintings, drawings and collages celebrating 'who and what make Australia great'. This touring exhibition can be seen at different venues around the region.

Remembering Australian Peacekeepers: 9 March – 27 April 2019
This exhibition examines the often-forgotten stories of the Australian Peacekeepers both past and present. The objects, images and memorabilia are from the Gallery & Museum's historical collection as well as private loans.
