Get Set for Saiki Children's Day 2013

The Region's children are being treated to an exciting educational cultural experience this June when the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum once again presents Saiki Children's Day

An initiative of the Gladstone Saiki Sister City Advisory Committee and Gladstone Regional Council, the event, modelled on Japan's Children's Day, offers primary school aged children the opportunity to experience Japanese culture through traditional hands-on activities.

This has been a very well received event by the community in the past with over 600 attending Saiki Children's Day last year.  This year youngsters from the Region can look forward to learning about Japanese traditional theatre, sports and native animals as well as cultural beliefs and traditions.

"We are delighted be able to offer this day again for the enjoyment of the Region's children." said Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum Director, Pamela Whitlock. "Not only is this a fantastic opportunity for children to be introduced to Japanese culture, but it strengthens ties with Saiki City while encouraging cultural diversity, understanding and creativity."

Saiki Children's Day is on 10am - 12.30pm, Friday 14 June 2013 at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum. Participation is FREE however spaces are limited. Contact the Gallery/Museum by phoning (07) 4976 6766 or email gragm@gladstoner.qld.gov.au to register your class or child's interest.
