FREE workshops to help celebrate Australia Day (2013)

As part of local Australia Day 2014 celebrations, the Gladstone Regional Council is calling for entries in the Celebrate Australia Primary School Art Competition.

The competition is open to ALL primary school aged children in the Gladstone region to help us to celebrate 'what and who makes Australia great'. To enter students simply have to draw, paint or collage an aspect of Australia they believe is iconic on a sheet of A4 paper.

There are two sections: Prep - Year 3 and Year 4 - Year 7.

In 2014, entries will be displayed at the Mezzanine Floor, Leo Zussino Building, CQUniversity Gladstone Campus from 17 January to 13 February and at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum 7 February to 15 March. Digital displays of the entries will be hosted at Council venues and offices across the region.

Winners will be announced during Gladstone Regional Council's 2014 Australia Day celebrations, 3pm - 7pm Sunday, 26 January 2014, Gladstone Marina Parklands and the CQUniversity exhibition will also be open for all to enjoy.

Works will be judged by Gallery & Museum Curator, Jo Duke and the winning artist from each age group will receive some fantastic prizes including a FAMILY pass to a 2014 Gladstone Entertainment Convention Centre show, in the newly refurbished venue. Winners' artwork will be printed as 2014 Gladstone Region Australia Day complimentary commemorative postcards, available during the celebrations and exhibition.

To assist budding artists with their entries three FREE workshops with local artist Janie Petersen are on offer, basic materials will be provided, just bring your art gear and great ideas.
