Call for Entries for Major Art Awards
The Gladstone Region's much loved Rio Tinto Alcan Martin Hanson Memorial Art Awards, hosted by the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum, will soon be calling for entries for 2014.
Artists from around the nation have the opportunity to take home the coveted overall prize of $15,000 sponsored by Rio Tinto Alcan, in addition to the lucrative prize pool of $19,500 thanks to the generous support of local individuals, business and industry, including Queensland Alumina Ltd, Murray & Wendy Schoenfisch, Australia Pacific LNG, Gladstone Ports Corporation and Stage & Audio.
Now in its 39th year, the Art Awards have established themselves as a nationally recognised event, annually receiving 350 entries (approximately) from around Australia. Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum Curator Jo Duke said the Awards offer local artists from Gladstone and neighboring regions a valuable opportunity to “exhibit on home ground alongside artworks from around the country.”
This year the Awards introduce a NEW section, Digital Works, to the existing three sections of entry, Easel Paintings, Works on Paper and Three Dimensional & Fibre Works. This additional section will include contemporary mediums such as moving image, photography, animation and soundscapes.
All Award winners will be announced 6pm, Saturday 8 November after the exhibition has been officially launched.
Submissions into the 2014 Rio Tinto Alcan Martin Hanson Memorial Art Awards should be delivered to the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum between 30 October and 1 November 2014. Entry fee is $15 per submission.
