Budding school artists called to enter Australia Day competition

As part of 2019 Australia Day celebrations, Gladstone Regional Council is calling for entries in the Celebrate Australia Primary School Art Competition.

Open now to ALL 2018 primary school aged students in the Gladstone Region, Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said the competition helps us celebrate who and what makes Australia great'.

“I encourage students to think about what aspects of our Australian lifestyle are important to them and to use this as inspiration for their artwork,” Councillor Burnett said.

To enter, students simply draw, paint, or collage an aspect of Australia they believe is iconic, on an A4 sized sheet of paper and submit their artwork with a completed entry form. Forms can also be collected at Council’s offices, venues and libraries.

There are two sections of entry: Section One: Prep to Year 2 and Section Two: Year 3 to Year 6

Entries close 4pm Friday, 21 December 2018, delivered to the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum, Cnr Goondoon & Bramston Streets, Gladstone.

Artworks will be judged by Gallery & Museum Curator / Manager, Jo Duke, and the winning artists from each section will receive some fantastic prizes, such as their winning entry printed as 2019 Gladstone Regional Council Australia Day commemorative postcards and a Gladstone Cinemas FAMILY pass (2A & 2C).

WINNERS ANNOUNCED

Winners will be announced during the Gladstone Regional Council's Australia Day Celebrations, from 3pm to 7pm Saturday, 26 January 2019 at the Millennium Esplanade, Tannum Sands.

FREE WORKSHOPS

To assist budding artists with their entries, local artist Anne Huth will present three FREE workshops across the region. Basic materials are provided just be sure to wear your favourite art gear. Workshops will be held from 10.30am to 12pm at the following venues:

• Nagoorin Hall: Tuesday,18 December 2018
• Agnes Water Community Centre: Wednesday,19 December 2018
• Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum: Thursday, 20 December 2018

• January - Gladstone Tondoon Botanic Gardens Visitors Centre Gallery
• February - The Mezzanine Floor, Leo Zussino Building CQUniversity Gladstone Marina Campus
• March/April – Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum
• May/June – Boyne Tannum Community Centre
• June/July – Gladstone City Library

Digitised exhibitions of entries will also be displayed at selected Council venues from January to April.
