Award-winning local artists to speak at free Art Awards: Artist Talks
Four award-winning local artists will provide insight into their artistic works during free Art Awards: Artist Talks at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum on Saturday, November 26.
Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said visitors to the Gallery & Museum could meet the artists and hear a personal account about their works currently on display from 10.30am.
"Artist Talks are popular sessions which provide interesting behind-the-scenes information from the artists themselves," Councillor Burnett said.
Gladstone Regional Council's Environment & Community Services Committee Chair Councillor Cindi Bush said the free Artist Talks were held in conjunction with The 41st Rio Tinto Martin Hanson Memorial Art Awards 2016, on display at the Gallery & Museum until December 8.
Speakers include:
• Christine Holden: Winner of Section 3: Three Dimensional & Fibre Works, the Gladstone Ports Corporation Award, with her work, Jellyfish Blues.
• Ellie Tregaskis: Winner of the Pieter Groen-int-woud Memorial Young Emerging Artist Award, sponsored by Multitrade, with her work, Death, what's next?
• Sharilee Marr: Winner of the Local Murri Artist Award, sponsored by Elizabeth and Leo Zussino, with her work, Mining Matters.
• Marci Russo: Winner of the Gail Sellers Local Artist Award, with her work, Pa Trilogy
"The Art Award: Artist Talks are a community cultural initiative of Council, and are open to all, with questions from the audience encouraged," Cr Bush said.
"These talks enable the community to connect with the artists and gain a greater appreciation of the influences behind their works.
"Each artist will present a fascinating discussion on their individual, preferred techniques, backgrounds and creative processes."
