The Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum is excited to offer a FREE public program to visitors of The 40th Rio Tinto Martin Hanson Memorial Art Awards & Exhibition 2015 on November 21 and 28.
Over two consecutive Saturday's, eight local artists will present Art Awards: Artist Talks, speaking briefly about their artworks on display. The works to be discussed by these talented artists were selected as Award winners by the 2015 Judge, Mr Simon Wright, Assistant Director (Learning + Public Engagement), Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAG|GOMA) at the Awards Presentation evening on October 17. Of the twenty-one Awards presented that night by Mr Wright, sixteen were given to worthy Gladstone Regional artists.
"All eight of the local artists that we asked to be involved with Art Awards: Artist Talks were very enthusiastic about the notion of sharing their ideas with an audience of their peers," explained Gallery & Museum Public Programs Officer, Madeleine Cook. "Each artist has been asked to speak for around 10 minutes to explore their preferred techniques and creative processes behind their winning artwork."
The first week's session is planned for Saturday, November 21, from 10.30am - 11.30am, and will include an assortment of discussions from Mrs Beryl Beale, Mr Lynn Clifford, Mrs Ping Carlyon and Mr Kevin Erickson. The second week's session will run on the following Saturday (November 28, 10.30am - 11.30am) and will showcase another four artists with diverse backgrounds including, Mrs Sue Daw, Ms Kate Simons, Mr James Thomas Nightingale and Mrs Beryl Wood.
"If you are familiar with the work of these local artists, you will know just how interesting and different each one of these Artist Talks will be. The range of mediums these skilled artists have worked with (photography, fibre, sculpture, painting, drawing, film-making, etc,) means that the audience is in for a real treat," Madeleine said.
The FREE Art Awards: Artist Talks programs are aimed at supporting local artists and delivering engaging programs for the community. People are encouraged to attend either or both presentations and audience participation is welcome. RSVP is appreciated.
