ANZAC Day Book Launch: War Memorials of the Gladstone Region
Staff and volunteers of the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum created and launched a special 112 page publication in time for ANZAC Day 2017.
The first edition of War Memorials of the Gladstone Region was presented to the public on April 25, in conjunction with this year's ANZAC Day: Lest We Forget exhibition, which is currently on display until May 31.
The publication serves as a local guide to the Memorials within the Gladstone Region, honouring the Fallen and those who served Australia in the Armed Services. It contains details of War Memorials in Agnes Water, Boyne Island, Calliope, Gladstone, Many Peaks, Miriam Vale, Mt Larcom, Polmaily, Raglan, Rosedale, Turkey Beach, Ubobo and Yarwun.
The book includes handy maps and access information, as well as transcribed wording and names from each Memorial. In addition to this information, the book also features stunning photographs taken recently of the War Memorials, alongside heritage photographs.
The magazine-sized publication was an ongoing project created by staff and volunteers of the Gallery & Museum. The information was collated originally in 2009 for the Queensland War Memorial Register, organised by the Queensland Department of Public Works, Queensland Government.
To obtain a copy of War Memorials of the Gladstone Region, visit the front desk reception of the Gallery & Museum between 10am - 5pm, Monday to Saturday. The First Edition of the publication will be made available to local and state libraries, as well as to the public for FREE, until all copies are distributed.
