and the winners are ............ NAIDOC WEEK 2011
In support of NAIDOC Week 2011, the Gladstone Regional Council called for entries in the 2011 Celebrate NAIDOC Week Primary School Art Competition.
The competition was open to ALL primary school students in the Gladstone Region to help us celebrate the National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee, (NAIDOC) Week, in the Gladstone region.
Students were encouraged to think about the important aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, to reflect on what the 2011 national NAIDOC theme: Change: The next step is ours, means to them.
To enter, students simply had to draw, paint, or collage the aspect of NAIDOC Week they believe is iconic and anything the student believes is important and meaningful to NAIDOC can be the inspiration for their artwork.
Over 300 entries were recevied in the two sections of entry Prep to Year 3 and Year 4 to Year 7, with the section two artists challenged to write an artist statement with their work.
Winners were announced at the official launch of the Arts NAIDOC exhibition at the Gallery/Museum Monday evening, July 4 and the entries will continue on display until Saturday July 23.
