2018 SUNfest program released offering greater STEM related activities

Gladstone Regional Council has launched its 2018 SUNfest youth holiday program offering greater Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) related activities for 11 to 17 year olds.

Gladstone Region Mayor Matt Burnett said the SUNfest program from January 8-19 would feature a diversity of new events alongside regular activities that proved popular each year.

“There are some exciting new workshops added to the program in 2018 tailored to youths interested in coding, technology, engineering and computer design,” Councillor Burnett said.

“Plenty of SUNfest options, offered by a majority of local providers, will keep youths entertained across the Gladstone Region."

“SUNfest aims to provide low cost activities to offer accessibility for as many of our 11 to 17-year-old residents as possible.”

Councillor PJ Sobhanian said some of the new workshops in 2018 would include drama games, yoga, coding, flower crown design, Crossfit and magazine design.

“Several activities and events are free and run for a few hours, while others have been designed as multi-day events,” Cr Sobhanian said.

Youths who enjoy action can choose from activities including a Capricorn Caves adventure, indoor rock climbing, abseiling and sportwall activities, laser skirmish, cricket, paintball, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, clay target, archery and karting.

Workshops are also available for those interested in photography, art, cooking, make up, music, theatre and dance.

Youngsters keen to participate in SUNfest are urged to browse the program in readiness to secure their bookings early with tickets on sale from 9am on Wednesday, November 29.

The SUNfest 2018 program can be viewed online at www.gladstone.qld.gov.au/sunfest

Tickets can be purchased online, over the phone, or in person when ticket sales open.
