2016 QAL People's Choice Award Winners Revealed

The 41st Rio Tinto Martin Hanson Memorial Art Awards 2016 has been on display for almost two months and closed at 5pm today, Thursday 8 December 2016.  Nearly 4000 people visited to see the exhibition of entries with many of those taking the time to vote for their favourite works in The QAL People's Choice Awards 2016.

With the help of Queensland Alumina Limited, on Wednesday 7 December 2016, the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum had the honour of announcing the winners of The QAL People's Choice Awards 2016.

An intermit crowd attended the presentation and Jo Duke, Gallery & Museum Curator, was pleased to reveal the following:

The winner of The QAL People's Choice Award for Section 1: Easel Paintings was Andrea Chapman, with 'A Passion for the Past'.

The winner of The QAL People's Choice Award for Section 2: Works on Paper was Ping Carlyon, with 'Good Morning Gladstone'.

The winner of The QAL People's Choice Award for Section 3: Three Dimensional and Fibre Works was John Cooper, with 'A Fish Set for an Industrial Ocean'.

The winner of The QAL People's Choice Award for Section 4: Digital Works was John Brauers, with 'The way back'.

The winner of the randomly selected QAL Voters Award 2016 was Petula Masters.

"Congratulations to all and a special thank you to those who took the time to come in and vote," Jo Duke said at the Awards presentation.

"This is the third year Queensland Alumina Limited has offered The QAL People's Choice Awards and we are so thankful for their ongoing support.  Its been a massive year but I cannot wait to start the ball rolling again for next year's 42nd Martin Hanson Memorial Art Awards!"
