SAIKI MAYOR TO ATTEND OFFICIAL OPENING

On an official visit the Mayor of Gladstone's sister city Saiki, Japan will take time out of his busy schedule to attend the opening of the annual photographic exchange between the two cities.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the sister city relationship which has been sustained and strengthened through cultural enterprises such as the annual Intercity Images and visitor exchanges.

The sharing of photographs has enabled citizens in both countries to see their sister city through the eyes of their contemporaries. Residents from Gladstone and surrounds submit photographs each year and a selection is chosen to represent their city. The local photographs are first displayed at the Saiki Visitors Centre alongside the selected images from Saiki. After this the photographs of both regions travel to Gladstone and are displayed at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum.

On his visit to the Gladstone region the Mayor of Saiki, Yasuyoshi Nishijima, will be accompanied by Saiki City Council Chairperson Yoshimi Hidaka and a small delegation of Saiki citizens. Their visit will include sight seeing, giving origami and calligraphy demonstrations at the Multicultural Festival being held at the Marina on August 6, and attending the opening of Intercity Images.

Intercity Images: Saiki and Gladstone Photographic Exchange will be on display at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum from August 5 to September 30. The opening night will be Monday August 7 at 6pm.
