Official Opening From the South Seas
Join in with all the celebrations at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum from 10.30am this Saturday, April 26 at the special opening event of Gilbert Bel-Bachir'sFrom the South Seasphotographic exhibition.
Guest speaker Trevor Corowa, Hereditary Chief, Tanna Island, Vanuatu, will officially open the exhibition, a series of 35 portraits of Australian descendants of South Sea Islanders brought to this country during the 19th and early 20th century.
The morning event will include a special performance from the fantasticPacific Pikininis Dancersand at 1pm visitors will have the opportunity to hear the artist, Gilbert Bel-Bachir introduce his portraits.
Sharing their stories and culture with the wider community, local South Sea Islander families have generously contributed to the display with photographs and artifacts.
