Menagerie Family Day
The Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum will open its doors to the public this Sunday, when it presents a Family Day for its landmark exhibition: Menagerie: Contemporary Indigenous Sculpture. This groundbreaking exhibition features 33 established and emerging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, who have each produced outstanding sculptural works depicting a variety of native Australian animals. Manager Arts and Heritage Pamela Whitlock spoke of the Gallery / Museum's excitement at exhibiting this major exhibition “Menagerie is one of the most extensive surveys of contemporary Indigenous sculpture to tour Australia” said Whitlock. “This exhibition is a celebration of the art and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the Gallery / Museum are thrilled to be exhibiting it." she continued. To mark this significant exhibition, families are invited to come and participate in a variety of hands on activities to create their own animals using different mediums. Local artists will share their techniques and show families how to make their own unique animals. This is also the public's last chance to see Menagerie before it closes on Sunday. Entry to the Menagerie Family Day is free. Activities will go from 10am to 2pm.
