This local exhibition displays the literary and art achievements of twenty local primary school students.

Mentored by local artist Belynda (Bindi) Waugh, this Curtis Coast Literary Carnivale event showcases the students' responses to the environment in innovative ways by examining the impact of industry on landscape, culture and residents of the area.

The stories and artworks resulting from this mentorship have already been included in the 2007 Brisbane Writers Festival program of events where it was exhibited at the State Library of Queensland.

Metal and Mangroves received funding from the Australian Government's Regional Arts Fund managed in Queensland by the Queensland Arts Council and other generous sponsors including Rio Tinto Aluminium, Gladstone City Council, Central Queensland Ports Authority, Illustration House - Southbank and the Brisbane Writers Festival.
