Celebrating 70 Years of the Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race

-

In 1948-1949 the Queensland Cruising Yacht Club (QCYC) of Brisbane approached local authorities in Gladstone to seek support for a proposed yacht race. The competition was charted for vessels to travel 308 nautical miles north, along the coastline, sailing from Shorncliffe to Gladstone. With the combined efforts made by the Port Curtis Sailing Club and the Gladstone Town Council, the proposal was accepted. The inaugural Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race was held in 1949. 2018 marks the 70th edition of the ocean classic.

This heritage exhibition showcases a selection of historical images and memorabilia throughout the years, from the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum collection, as well as items on loan from the community.
