Exciting hands-on activities for children that explore the important relationship the Kaiadilt people of the Gulf Carpentaria have with the sea are coming to the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum as part of a major Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) regional tour, which is traveling to more than 80 regional venues during 2017.

In ‘The Gabori Sisters: Gathering by the Sea, Kids on Tour’, young visitors can experience the interactive project that QAGOMA’s Children’s Art Centre developed in collaboration with Elsie, Dorothy and Amanda Gabori.

Through hands-on making, drawing and multimedia activities, children are taken on a journey to the artists' homeland of Bentinck Island in Queensland's Gulf of Carpentaria.

The family fun day gives children the opportunity to discover the Kayardild language, create their own Kaiadilt totem animal, reflect on their knowledge of the sea in a drawing activity, create a sea creature collage, and even make a digital humpy.  Families can also listen to the Gabori Sisters share stories from Bentinck Island in a video interview.

Kids on Tour is offered as a free program to regional Queensland communities through the Gallery’s Regional Services department.
