Youth Art Showcased at The Gallery/Museum
Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art 2012 – 2013 Touring Exhibition
19th Annual Golding Showcase: Port Curtis Callide Valley Youth Art Exhibition
National and local art share the stage in a celebration of youth art at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum.
The Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art is a vibrant collection of artwork by Queensland’s top high school visual art students, showcasing works on paper, sculpture, film, printmaking, photography and mixed media. The exhibition aims to recognise and promote excellence in senior visual arts education throughout Queensland State and non-State secondary schools.
Held annually since 1990 and with the support of Museum and Gallery Services Queensland, the awards have helped raise community awareness about the degree of sophistication in concepts, diversity of technical competence, and the high standard of arts programs in Queensland.
Short-listed artworks are displayed in regional exhibitions, with the winning works showcased at the Gallery of Modern Art then toured throughout regional centres in the following eighteen months.
This exhibition will open with Gladstone's own local showcase of youth art; the 19th Annual Golding Showcase: Port Curtis Callide Valley Youth Art Exhibition at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum on 12 August 2013 at 6pm by Cr Gail Sellers, Mayor of Gladstone Region.
In memory of the award's late patron Cyril Golding, 'Golding' is an annual favourite in the Gladstone arts scene and offers senior high school aged students the opportunity to be voted the 'face' of the exhibition for the following year, to be featured on all marketing material. The exhibition has acted as an invaluable springboard for many emerging artists to pave their own careers.
The Gallery / Museum are proud to have Shirley Golding to hand out the certificates and the 2013 partnering school Chanel College will be providing entertainment.
