Saiki Children's Day event at the Gallery/Museum

The Saiki Gladstone Advisory Committee and Gladstone Regional Council are calling on schools in the Gladstone Region to join them in celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Saiki and Gladstone Sister City relationship.

A series of events are planned throughout the year starting with the

Saiki Children's Day

10am to 12pm, Friday 3 June 2011
at the Gallery/Museum

The morning event will be modelled on Japan's annual traditional Children's Day  and  aims to introduce local children to Japanese culture by offering the opportunity to experience 'hands on' traditional activities such as preparing Samurai helmets, festival dolls (hina matsuri), colouring carp fish (koinobori), manga drawing, origami and juggling, as well as fan and kite making.

The activities will require some manual dexterity but are suitable for a range of abilities. Gallery/Museum staff and volunteers will be available to assist teachers and parents attending the morning with students.

Participation is free and bookings are essential. Please download a Group Booking form here and send to gragm@gladstonerc.qld.gov.au or fax to 4972 9097 to confirm your attendance.

For further information please phone the Gallery/Museum on 4976 6766.
