Get Involved!

The Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum has a number of opportunities for local artists to be involved in upcoming exhibitions.  Annual display Intercity Images: Gladstone Saiki Photographic Exchange is calling for submissions from the public while Past Present Future #21stcenturyart-making is asking for participants to join video artist David M. Thomas and filmmaker Suzanne Howard for a free 3 day master class, "Approaches to Video Art".

Now in its 12th year, Intercity Images invites photographers of the Gladstone Region to capture the spirit of Central Queensland’s lifestyle, people and environment.  Thanks to the initiatives of the Gladstone Saiki Sister City Advisory Committee and the support of Gladstone Regional Council, the exchange encourages photographers of all ages and levels of experience to submit up to two images each by 5pm Tuesday 1 April.  All entries will then be displayed as part of the exhibition, 5-26 April, before thirty are selected by a panel of judges to be enlarged and sent to Sister City, Saiki City in Japan for display in June.  The announcement of the selected images will be at the official launch of the exhibition 5.30pm Friday 11 April.

On that same night, exhibition Past Present Future #21stcenturyart-making will also be officially launched.  As part of this contemporary display there will be works presented by local artists that are yet to be generated from an intensive 3 day master class, "Approaches to Video Art".  This workshop will be held at Lake Awoonga and the Gallery & Museum 28-30 March and be led by nationally recognised artists David M. Thomas and Suzanne Howard.  Supported by the Lake Awoonga Dam Alliance's Lake Awoonga Immersion Fund and 'Stage & Audio, Event Solutions' this workshop is free for local artists, including transport, food, accommodation and camera equipment.  Artists are only asked to bring along a stimulus item for themselves which reflects the workshop theme of 'happiness'.  This will help the participants as they create their own digital artwork under the guidance and direction of David and Suzanne.  Interested participants are encouraged to attend a floor talk and master class brainstorming session at the Gallery & Museum from 11am Saturday 22 March.   The exhibition will be on display there from 21 March - 4 May.

Entry forms for Intercity Images and more information regarding "Approaches to Video Art" are available online at the Gallery & Museum website http://gallerymuseum.gladstonerc.qld.gov.au.  If you are interested in attending the master class, RSVP ASAP as spaces are limited, phone (07) 4976 6766.  The Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum is located on the corner of Goondoon & Bramston Streets, Gladstone.  It is open 10am-5pm, Monday to Saturday with FREE admission.  The Gallery & Museum will be closed Good Friday, but open Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday as well as ANZAC Day.
