Award-winning local artists to speak at Art Awards: Artist Talks

Four Award-winning local artists will provide insight into their artistic works during FREE Art Awards: Artist Talks at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum this Saturday, 2 December 2017.

Gallery & Museum Curator, Jo Duke said visitors to the Gallery & Museum could meet the artists and hear a personal account about their works currently on display from 10.30am.

"Artist Talks are popular sessions which provide interesting contextual information from the artists themselves," Jo said.

The FREE Artist Talks are held in conjunction with ‘The 42nd Rio Tinto Martin Hanson Memorial Art Awards 2017’, currently on display at the Gallery & Museum until 7 December 2017.

Saturday’s speakers include:

  • Bindi Waugh: Winner of The Local Murri Artist Award, sponsored by Elizabeth and Leo Zussino, for her work, ‘Should Race Define Place’.
  • Rosemary Anderson: Winner of The Gail Sellers Local Artist Award, for her work, ‘A Drop of Salt Water’.
  • Claudia Wehrli: Winner of Section 3: Three Dimensional & Fibre Works, The O’Reilly Family Award, for her work, ‘Coral Bowl’.
  • Kyle Piper: Section 4: Digital Works, Highly Commended Award, for his work, ‘Gladstone’.

Everyone is welcome to come along to the Art Award: Artist Talks, with questions from the audience encouraged.

"These Talks enable the community to connect with the artists and gain a greater appreciation of the influences behind their works.  I have no doubt each artist will present a fascinating discussion on the how, why and where of their creative processes," Jo said.

The Gallery & Museum is located on the corner of Goondoon & Bramston Streets, Gladstone.
