APT8 KIDS ON TOUR TAKES OVER THE GLADSTONE REGIONAL ART GALLERY & MUSEUM

In conjunction with ‘The 8th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art’ (APT8), the Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) will be taking key activities from APT8 Kids on the road visiting the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum these school holidays, 10am - 1pm, Saturday 23 January 2016.

As an integral part of the Asia Pacific Triennial series, QAGOMA has hosted a dynamic program of interactive and hands-on activities for children since 1999, designed to connect young visitors with the art practice of some of the region’s leading contemporary artists.  APT8 Kids on Tour will visit over 50 regional venues from January to April 2016, including the Gladstone Region for a FREE family fun day on January 23.

QAGOMA Director Chris Saines CNZM said the Gallery had worked closely with artists from six countries including India, Vietnam and New Zealand, to develop activities that would travel throughout Queensland as part of APT8 Kids on Tour.   ‘APT8 Kids on Tour will enrich children’s knowledge of the culturally diverse Asia Pacific region as they explore how artists reflect their culture, beliefs and ideas through art. With the generous support of the Tim Fairfax Family Foundation, we are again able to bring these activities to regional venues so children from across the state can take part in APT8,’ said Mr Saines.

APT8 Kids on Tour will feature making and drawing activities, including Indian artist Venkat Raman Singh Shyam’s The Woman and the Parrot 2015 and Rosanna Raymond’s Play with Your Birds 2015, as well as multimedia activities such as Vietnamese artist UuDam Tran Nguyen’s Draw 2 Connect with License 2 Draw.

As a special incentive for families to attend the Gallery & Museum's Family Fun Day 23 January, 100 copies of the children's activity booklet, 'Draw, Make, Create: Kids APT8' (valued at $14.95 ea.) will be given away to the first 100 children through the door.  Produced in association with the APT8 Kids exhibition, the booklet introduces young readers to three contemporary artists, Pushpa Kumari (India), Sharon Chin (Malaysia), and Gerelkhuu Ganbold (Mongolia), and contains a number of playful art-making activities, with a special focus on drawing.

APT8 Kids on Tour is proudly supported by Principal Benefactor Tim Fairfax Family Foundation. For more information about APT8 Kids on Tour and a full list of venues, visit www.qagoma.qld.gov.au. The Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum is located on the corner of Goondoon & Bramston Sts, Gladstone and open 10am - 5pm, Monday to Saturday, with FREE admission. (Closed 25 December - 3 January 2016, inclusive).
