And the Winners Are...

Winners of the Celebrate Australia Primary School Art Competition were announced during the Gladstone City Council's Australia Day celebrations at the Gladstone Marina.

300 works were received from local young artists in this year's competition. The colourful and imaginative paintings, drawings and collages were greatly admired throughout the evening.

The competition winners are:

Section One, Prep to Year 3:
  1. First Prize - Jackson Adnum, Everything Australian
  2. Second Prize - Skye Zausa, Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race
  3. Third Prize - Murphy Baker, Ned Kelly
  4. Highly Commended - Chloe Cooper, Australia is the Best, Lilli Budd, My Family, Mia Silvester, Koala in a Tree, Sidney Blake, Australia Day
Section Two, Year 4 - Year 7:
  1. First Prize - Page DeSilva, The Aussie Bushwalk
  2. Second Prize - Genna Downie, Australia from Sun to Surf
  3. Third Prize - Madison Baker, Sunset of Uluru
  4. Highly Commended - Bonnie-Jean Murratt, Hungry Echidna, Kristopher Kennedy, Aussie Mozzie, Rosemary Williams, Uluru Sunset, Kate McAuley, Day at the Beach.

All of the entries received are on display at the Tondoon Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre Gallery until 3pm Friday February 1.

Gladstone City Council has reproduced the six prize-winning works as limited edition postcards, to commemorate Australia Day 2008 and these are available at the exhibition.

Take the opportunity to check out the artistic talents of our Primary School aged children to discover what aspects of Australia are really special to them and pick up your free postcard at the exhibition.

The display will then continue at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum from February 6.
