2006 Education Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Art

-

The Education Minister's Awards for Excellence in Art aim to promote and recognise excellence in senior visual arts education throughout Queensland state and non-state schools.

Held annually since 1990, the awards have helped raise community awareness about the degree of sophistication in concepts, diversity of technical competence, and the high standard of arts programs in Queensland secondary schools. They encourage students to achieve high standards and promote visual arts in schools and their wider community.

Demonstrating the depth and breadth of talent in Queensland schools, the touring exhibition means that students around the state are able to experience the work being produced by their peers in different regions.

The work exhibited shows a merging of traditional art forms, such as painting and sculpture, with non-traditional forms including electronic imaging, assemblage, film and video.

Toured by Museum & Gallery Services Queensland.

Inset: Daniel Mathew: Message Sticks, 2005. Mixed media, variable dimensions, Goondiwindi State High School.
