Volunteering at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum is an excellent way of discovering more about the arts and local history, gaining work experience, making new friends and supporting your local arts and culture institution. One of the reasons why the Gallery & Museum is so successful is thanks to the dedication and support of the many volunteers who generously donate their time and efforts to ensuring that everything runs smoothly.
There are many areas in which Volunteers play a vital role in the organisation, from administration to researching, installation to demount and working at official functions through to assisting at workshops. If you are interested in joining a fun team of like-minded individuals and giving back to the community, consider becoming a Gallery & Museum volunteer. Training is provided and hours are flexible.
Every Saturday we are open from 10am - 5pm and have a volunteer assist a staff member. There are two shifts; Morning shift: 10am - 2pm; Afternoon shift: 1pm - 5pm. Volunteers assist by welcoming visitors and providing information regarding the current exhibitions. They can also help with a number of general administration tasks.
With four exhibition spaces there is always something coming and going! Installing and demounting exhibitions requires a good level of fitness and agility. Volunteers assist with unpacking/packing, hanging artwork and even moving walls!
Most exhibitions have an official function. Here at the Gallery & Museum we pride ourselves on ensuring each launch is well received and enjoyed by the community. Assistance is required with function set up, meet and greet, food service and pack up.
Adult and kids workshops are held regularly. At Saiki Children’s Day 2015 the workshop had over 600 children attend, so help is really appreciated at these events. Children’s events require volunteers to hold a Blue Card. Volunteers supervise these events, helping out in a number of different ways, depending on what’s required.
